About the Therapists
| Diane Jerdan and Tamara Loomis
each have over 15 years of extensive experience working with adults, adolescents,
families, couples, and groups. Diane Jerdan received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ithaca College. She received her Masters Degree of Social Work from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While living in North Carolina, Diane worked for Catholic Social Ministries in Raleigh, North Carolina where she was responsible for the implementation and development of their counseling program. She marketed the program to local parishes and community groups, provided counseling services; and worked with pregnant teenagers, their families, foster families, and adoptive couples. Diane moved to Philadelphia in 1987 where she worked initially for The Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment (formerly Philadelphia Psychiatric Center and a subsidiary of The Albert Einstein Medical Center). While there, Diane received formal training in group psycho-therapy. She functioned as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team and provided group, individual and family counseling to the adult and geriatric populations of their acute psychiatric inpatient hospital. Diane later worked as the psychiatric social worker for Albert Einstein Medical Center's experimental 'Long Terrn Structured Residence: The Villas at Fairview' a program for individuals with a chronic mental illness. Diane was a member of the initial start-up team and assisted with the development of the program's policies and procedures. She implemented the programs comprehensive family support services'. Additionally, her job responsibilities included: interviewing and assessing potential residents, participating in multi-disciplinary diagnostic and treatment planning processes, supervising social work students and helping to provide comprehensive social services to the program's thirty-six residents. During the eight years that Diane lived in the Philadelphia area she also worked as a Nursing Home Consultant to area nursing homes, and worked as a psycho-therapist for both a Health Maintenance Organization and Interact: a Community Mental Health Center. Diane received formal training in Family Therapy from The Family Therapy Institute. For five years, Diane worked as a site-coordinator on a longitudinal National Institute of Mental Health Research Project: 'Chronic Illness and its Effect on the Family'. The project originated at George Washington University in Washington D.C. and has a satellite data base at The University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the National Organization of Social Worker's local chapter's 'Social Worker's Research Group' which encouraged and supported social worker's participation and involvement in research. Diane relocated to Ithaca, NY in 1994 and at that time began working as a therapist at a local non-profit agency. Tamara has been living in Ithaca since 1985 and, like Diane, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ithaca College. After working for H.O.M.E.S., Inc., she received her Masters Degree of Social Work from Boston University. While studying in Boston, Tamara did her internships at The Boston Vetran's Administration and The Newton-Needham guidance clinic. At the VA, Tamara was a member of the Homeless outreach program. She went to homeless shelters in the Boston area to help homeless vetrans get the services they needed. While working at the Newton-Needham Guidance Clinic, Tamara saw a variety of clients for psychotherapy, including children and adults. Tamara had five years of experience working as a therapist at a local non-profit agency, where she worked in the Brief Therapy model. Most of her clients have been short- term, between 8-10 sessions. In all, Tamara has counseled nearly 2,000 individuals during her career. Tamara has also spent many hours developing her training using the brief therapy model.
